Seniors Real Estate Institute (SREI) proudly announces newly certified Senior Downsizing Coaches, Mary Eikenberry of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jan Brito and Laura Quigley, both serving the District of Columbia and surrounding areas. These elite REALTORS® also hold the Certified Senior Housing Professional (CSHP) and Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES) designations. 

The National Association of REALTORS© reports that more than 50% of all home sales involve older adults. Seniors Real Estate Institute’s Senior Downsizing Coaching Skills Training, written and instructed by Dr. Nikki Buckelew, PhD and founder of the institute, was developed in response to the overwhelming demographic shift. 

“Over two decades of anecdotal evidence is supported by a plethora of academic studies validating that moves taken on by longtime homeowners and older adults are more complex, involving both emotional and logistical challenges not commonly faced by typical home sellers or buyers. Furthermore, instruction on managing such issues is not part of the basic training in real estate licensing schools or brokerages,” Buckelew said.  

Topics included in the curriculum involve strategies for assisting clients with senior living and 55+ housing options, reducing ambivalence about the relocation process, managing feelings of being overwhelmed, effectively communicating expectations, collaborating with adult children and trusted advisors, and utilization of SREI’s exclusive Downsizing Made Easy Method© for simplifying late-life relocations.
