Our CSHP Members Shine on National Senior Citizen’s Day

Massive kudos to the many Certified Senior Housing Professionals who heeded our call to celebrate National Senior Citizen’s Day this past August 21, 2014.

Last year – 2013 – was the first that we suggested that CSHPs go out of their way to put together events, blog posts, and other ways of honoring seniors in their individual markets.

This year, the participation from members of the Seniors Real Estate Institute expanded and we saw even more large-scale activities from real estate agents determined to be of the utmost service to seniors.

Phoenix

Cheryl and Keith Krone of The Krone Team went full-bore with their inaugural “Arizona Senior Living Lifestyles Expo.”

They recruited and provided space for 27 other vendors to share information with area seniors. More than 200 people attended the event which also included food, entertainment, and an appearance and short speech by world-famous Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

They’ve also done an excellent job of recording the event with a very nice video and huge collection of online photos.

Austin

CSHP Cyndi Cummings and her Austin Senior Resource Center also jumped into the fray for the first time with their “First Annual National Senior Citizens’ Day Luncheon.”

Held at the Renaissance Hotel in Austin, Cyndi brought aboard a number of Silver and Bronze sponsors and placed a creative twist on the day by first soliciting nominations for – and then honoring – a number of local “outstanding senior citizens.

A high-profile television news anchorwoman from Austin was the featured speaker.

Birmingham

Last year, CSHP Cindy Monk persuaded the mayor and city council of her target suburb – Vestavia Hills – to declare every August 21 thereafter as “National Senior Citizen’s Day in Vestavia Hills” and punctuated the proclamation with an afternoon social and gathering for area seniors.

The event was reprised this year and Cindy reports “Our event has become an annual event as an open house for all to attend and catch up with old friends – like a reunion. The Mayor was on hand once again and thanked them for their contribution.”

Topeka

CSHP Carol Ronnebaum focused on spending the day visiting senior communities and dropping off freshly-baked pies to some of her former, senior real estate clients and catching up with the sales and marketing staffs of those senior living communities in Topeka.

All in all, our CSHPs’ are doing some really cool stuff in making National Senior Citizen’s Day a part of their service to area seniors and the community as a whole. It’s a fantastic way to show that you care and that “You Are Different.”

Oh… We might add that even though the official date for National Seniors Day was August 21st, many locales celebrate on other dates. Stay tuned for yet another update at the end of September after CSHPs Brett and Annette Junell of Pleasanton, CA hold their annual recognition event!

I hope these stories and examples will serve as inspiration and encourage more Certified Senior Housing Professionals to plan for some unique and beneficial events and activities come National Senior Citizen’s Day in 2015.
