Here are just a few strategies for filling your knowledge gaps:
Internet and library research – Read, watch documentaries, listen to podcasts. Become a student.
Network within the aging services industry – rub elbows with a diverse group of pro’s.
Hold focus groups involving your target audiences – people love to share their stories.
Conduct casual interviews among family and friends – talk to people you know.
Create a council of advisors (a.k.a. advisory council) – gather smart people together to give you free advice.
Caution
Read the networking guidelines provided in this section of the manual before attending local aging services networking events. Much like touring senior living communities, there are definitely some do’s and don’ts to become aware of. By following a few simple strategic recommendations, you can avoid making mistakes that others often fall victim to.
