As you can see from the illustration below (source: Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller) there is a very simple (well, somewhat simple) formula that can help you define your true role as a service based business person.

Contrary to popular belief, you are not the hero in the story, but rather, you are the guide. You are the guide who helps the hero find his or her way. Your job is to help them on their journey – connecting them with resources and navigating around pitfalls along the way. It’s your responsibility to demonstrate and articulate your role to your core advocates and key contacts.
